Numbering System
Most signs are identified by a unique series of letters and numbers. The letters refer to the type of sign. The numbers refer to the size of the sign or the number of the sign within a specific sign series. For example, a 24-inch STOP sign is designated R1-1-24; a one-line forest road destination with 4” letters is designated FRD-1-4. Here are some common sign abbreviations:
